It’s the spookiest time of year – Halloween! Forget the candy and kick start your celebration early this month with these fun, festive and healthy themed treats:

Pumpkin Cuties – 2 Ways

Mandarin oranges are a fan favorite – and they happen to make not only a delicious treat, but a cheery one as well! Take your favorite brand of mandarin oranges and keep the skin on. Using a permanent marker, draw jack-o-lantern faces on the skin. That’s it! Simple and easy to transport too.

If you prefer to peel the oranges, take off all the skin, leaving the fruit intact. Be sure to remove as much pith as possible, leaving mostly an orange ball. Slice celery stalks into small pieces and stick into the top of the orange as the pumpkin’s stem. Voila! Delicious mini pumpkins.

Monster Mouths

These spooky treats are transportable and delicious too! Slice green apples into standard apple wedges (or pick up the presliced version at the grocery!). Stack 2 wedges together, skin side out, and fill with your favorite nut butter. Add in yogurt covered raisins as teeth to hold the wedges apart. Add in a strawberry slice as a tongue for a fun variation on this delicious treat!

Pumpkin Smoothies

These delicious and healthy smoothies are great for breakfast or an after school snack. Add in nuts to blend or top the final smoothie, sprinkle with extra cinnamon or toss in a few dates for extra sweetness. This versatile smoothie is yummy, full of protein and fiber, they are a wholesome treat.

Combine the following into a blender:

1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt

1 Banana

1/2 cup pure pumpkin puree

1/4 tsp of Pumpkin Pie Spice

Splash of favorite milk if needed to blend

Serve with a sprinkle of walnuts or shelled sunflower seeds on top
