Four 4th of July Themed Treats

Happy 4th of July! It’s time to celebrate our country and what better way to do that than with some delicious treats? Whether you’re headed to a backyard party, the park or the beach, these deliciously themed treats will be sure to please everyone at the party.

Red White and Blue Salsa

This delicious salsa is sweet, savory and the perfect color combination! The amount of “heat” in the salsa can be adjusted by adding more or less seeds from the jalapeno.

  •  1 cup fresh blueberries
  •  1 cup diced strawberries
  •  1 cup diced jicama
  •  1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  •  1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  •  2 tablespoons finely chopped jalapeno pepper stemmed and seeded
  •  Juice of 1 large lime
  •  Salt to taste
  •  Tortilla chips for serving

American Flag Treat Platter

Create an American flag platter mad from delicious treats! Create a sweet version by using blueberries piled high for the blue part of the flag. Next, create red stripes using whole strawberries, cherries, and raspberries. Make the white sections from slices of jicama or yogurt covered pretzels.

Or make a savory version. Use cauliflower florets and or skinned cucumbers for the white stripes. For red, alternate grape tomatoes, red pepper slices or even salami slices. For the blue section, use a square bowl full of your favorite dip and add a little blue food coloring to tie it all together.

Patriotic Deviled Eggs

Deviled eggs are always a hit! Give them a patriotic spin and even get little hands involved!

Hard boil eggs and peal. Cut in half long ways and remove yolk. Mix yolks with 1 tsp of mayonnaise per yolk, salt and pepper to taste. Add bacon bits or pickle relish for a yummy twist.

Using two bowls with warm water and and a tablespoon of white vinegar, mix one bowl with red and one with blue food coloring. Divide the egg whites and soak in the bowls until they have absorbed the color. Remove with a spoon and pat dry.

Fill a plastic bag with the yolk mixture, remove air and seal. Snip a bottom corner off and then pipe the mixture into the egg whites. Chill in the refrigerator for several hours and enjoy!

Firecracker Sparkler

This delicious drink is kid friendly, healthy and will keep you hydrated! Using a small star shaped cookie cutter, make star cut outs from slices of apple or watermelon.

Fill a tall glass with ice, blueberries, raspberries and your star cut outs. Top with your favorite sparkling water, add a festive stray and sip sip hooray!!
