5 Cincinnati Day Trips the Whole Family Will Love

Youthland serves families throughout the Cincinnati and Dayton areas. We’re so fortunate to live in such a great place, surrounded by so many things to see and do. With summer upon us, we wanted to share some great places to visit in nearby cities – places that make for the perfect Cincinnati day trips! Keep reading to learn about some of our favorite hidden gems in Louisville, Indianapolis, Lexington, Fort Wayne, and Columbus!

Louisville, KY

Louisville is about 100 miles southwest of Cincinnati, with all sorts of things to see and do. Popular with families, the Kentucky Kingdom & Hurricane Bay is open seasonally and features rides, waterslides, and wave pools. The Louisville Zoo is another popular choice with many unique attractions and exhibits. To enjoy the outdoors, you’ll want to visit the Jefferson Memorial Forest or the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.

Indianapolis, IN

Indianapolis is just over 100 miles to the northwest of Cincinnati. The city offers all sorts of activities and sights for families to enjoy. You can spend the day exploring the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis which is one of the largest children’s museums in the world! Go Ape is another one of our favorite attractions, taking guests on adventures high up in the treetops. It is an outdoor adventure experience perfect for those 10 and up.

Lexington, KY

Lexington is only about 80 miles due south of Cincinnati, making for a quick and fun getaway. Your family will enjoy exploring the Explorium of Lexington or the Kentucky Horse Park. The horse park also offers a 260-site campground, with a pool and basketball courts.

Columbus, IA

Just over 100 miles to the northeast, you’ll find Columbus, OH. Columbus offers all sorts of family-friendly attractions and things to do. You can start by exploring the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium or by taking a stroll through the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. There are many parks, green spaces, and preserved lands close to Columbus. You can visit the Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park or the Deer Creek State Park to enjoy some of the best outdoor recreation in the area.

Fort Wayne, IN

Just about 100 miles to the north of Dayton, you’ll find Fort Wayne, IN. Your family will love exploring the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo or the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Nature lovers will also enjoy the Eagle Marsh Nature Preserve, Fogwell Forest, and the J. E. Roush Fish and Wildlife Area.
